Google is the place to be for local business to be as we all know that a large portion of your potential customers use the search engine on a daily basis to find a service or product that they are interested in. Now you are able to ask people who like your business to follow you on Google Maps to get new updates from your business according to an article from Search Engine Land.

So when a user follows you in Google Maps via the “Follow” button they will get updates from you in their “For You” tab. As well as this new businesses will also have the ability to have their businesses listed via Google My Business up to three months prior to their open date, allowing you to get everything planned prior to the big open.
Why you should care
Google Maps is, as previously mentioned, a key component when people search for local services and with the new “Follow” button you have an extra way in which to inform past customers and engage with new ones.
Once the person clicks on the “Follow” button they will be shown Google Posts from your business in the user’s “For You” tab.
“And for those of you who want to be in the know about all the new places opening around town, you’ll start seeing profiles for places before they even open on Google Maps for Android and mobile search—just look for the opening date in orange,” Said Paul Cole, Google Maps product manager .
This will be rolling out in the next few weeks so be sure to keep an eye out for that – however, the “Follow” button has only so far been launched on Android Devices and Google did not mention plans to release these features on iOS devices.
