Search Engines have come along way since you have to tell them to submit your website to them, as search engines crawl every inch of the internet and your site should be shown in the search results within a week, sometimes sooner, if you do some basic link building such as sharing your website onto Facebook, Twitter and all of the other social media platforms.
You need to be wary of companies who offer to submit your website to search engines for a fee, this is a con and you are simply wasting your money. Search engines charge no fees unless you want to do pay-per-click advertising to be shown at the top of the page within the ads section.
There is some confusion about companies not showing up for keywords they are looking to target, and since it’s not a matter of simply putting keywords on your website and expecting to be number right away, you need to take the long road and look to slowly build your websites authority in the eyes of search engines so that you will one day be number one. You need to do both a mix of on-site SEO and off-site SEO to build trust and create signals and relevancy for the keywords that you are targeting.
If even after a week your website has not yet been shown on search engines – a simple test would be to search for site:yourwebsite.com and that will show if it has or has not – then there are a few ways to give search engines a nudge.
Webmaster Tools
Both Google and Bing have webmaster tools and this allows you to submit your website to them and for them to also tell you if you have any problems with our site, and then ensure that these are rectified as soon as possible. You may not want to use all of the tools within these accounts, but if you want to keep track of your websites health then I would highly recommend that you keep these on your website. Adding them and verify your website will get your website submitted to the search engines as well.
Backlinks
Getting a backlink from another website, especially if it is trustworthy, is another sure-fire way in which to get your website indexed into major search engines. This is because a website which posts regular content and is trustworthy will get looked at more be search engines, and when it does they’ll see your website there and go and look at it.
Google+
Since Google owns Google+ this is a great way in which to give them a nudge. Use your Google+ account and link back to your website then your website will be instantly crawled by Google.
